Which IPL team is the best?

The most lucrative cricket league in the world, Indian Premier League, is getting better and better. The 17th edition is in full swing and half of the tournament is over. Rajasthan Royals are the current leaders having won 8 matches while Royal Challengers Bengaluru are still struggling down at the bottom of the standings with 3 wins. The impact sub-rule which was introduced last year is getting plenty of attention this season and the teams have made complete use of it as a result we are witnessing the excess of 250 plus scores consistently.

Understanding that IPL has a rich fan base and to garner their attention, the surfaces are usually flat and the runs will automatically flow. Having struggled all these years, bowlers got some sort of advantage with two bouncers per over but that didn’t click to the fullest. Plenty of things have changed over the last 16 years but the craze of the fans remains the same.

Here in this article, we will discuss how the teams have performed over the last 16 years in our IPL betting online platform. Do follow our website for more content related to IPL Prediction 2024.

IPL History

India lifted the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup back in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni and the celebrations went wild throughout the country. This prompted the BCCI to counter the rebel Indian Cricket League and they started a franchise-based T20 League named Indian Premier League in 2008. Initially, it was an eight-team tournament featuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Deccan Chargers.

Following the success in the first two years, allowed BCCI to expand the league to 10 teams in the 2011 edition with Kochi Tuskers and Pune Warriors coming as the new entrants. Kochi Tuskers sustained only one season and was terminated by the BCCI while Pune Warriors dropped themselves out of the League in 2013.

Gujarat Lions and Raising Pune Super Giants replaced Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the 2016 and 2017 editions who were suspended due to spot-fixing scandals.

When the League was played under closed doors in 2020 in UAE due to covid pandemic, there was a considerable spike in the viewership which led BCCI to expand the league to 10 teams once again. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants won the bids and made their league debuts in 2022.

Teams Journey Thus Far in IPL

Royal Challengers Bengaluru:

The franchise based out of Bengaluru has the most passionate and loyal fans, though their team hasn’t won the title since the tournament’s inception in 2008. M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is their home venue. As a team, they suffered more failures than successes throughout their entire IPL campaign. They fell short of winning the title by the barest of margins thrice when they reached the finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Challengers held the highest IPL Team score of 263 until 2024 which was broken by Sunrisers Hyderabad the same year.

Indian cricketing legend Rahul Dravid was their first captain who led the side in 2008 but the side failed under him completely and they ended up finishing 7th in the table with only 4 wins. Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli, Shane Watson, and Faf du Plessis are the other players to lead the franchise. Their best season came in the year 2016 but they lost in the finals against Sunrisers Hyderabad by mere 8 runs. Skipper Virat Kohli enjoyed a dream run, smashing 973 runs in 16 matches that included 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Co-owned by Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, Kolkata Knight Riders rank themselves as the 3rd best team in the IPL having won the title in 2012 and 2014. They didn’t enjoy a great run in the first three years as they ended up in the league stages. Sourav Ganguly was their icon player who led the side in 2008 and 2010. Brendon McCullum, Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis, Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, Shreyas Iyer, and Nitish Rana are the other players to lead the side.

Things started to change when they brought Gautam Gambhir in the 2011 auction and the batter from Delhi provided a good result taking the side to the Playoffs in his very first season for the franchise followed by a successful campaign in 2012 where they clinched the title for the first time beating Chennai Super Kings in the finals at Chepauk. They lifted their 2nd title in 2014 when they outsmarted Punjab Kings in the summit clash at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

They came close to their 3rd IPL title in 2021 but they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the finals by 27 runs. In the ongoing 2024 edition, they are doing well, winning 6 of their 9 matches to place themselves 2nd in the standings with 12 points.

Knight Riders ranked 3rd among the IPL Teams following their performances over the years.

Yellow Brigade is one of the consistent performers and undoubtedly the best team in IPL history. They won the title 5 times and ended up as runners on 5 occasions. 2020 and 2022 are the only two years where they finished in the league stages. MS Dhoni is the only player to be with the franchise since 2008, he led the side in 235 matches and has a 60.42 winning record. Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the other players to lead the franchise.

MS Dhoni passed his captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the ongoing 2024 edition where they currently placed 3rd in the standings with 10 points.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians franchise is owned by India’s most successful businessman Mukesh Ambani. They have won the joint most titles in IPL with 5 to their name. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai is their home venue. Mumbai Indians’ journey didn’t begin well in the first two seasons as they settled for league stages and their success started in 2010 when they ended up as runners-up losing to Chennai Super Kings. They crowned champions for the first time in 2013 under Rohit Sharma and later went on to win the titles in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. For all these records, we can easily say Mumbai Indians are one of the best teams in the IPL.

Having not got the desired results in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons, the management took a tough call to change their skipper in 2024, Hardik Pandya who was traded to the franchise from Gujarat Titans appointed as their new captain.

It’s advisable not to bet on Mumbai Indians going all the way to the Playoffs in the 2024 edition on our IPL betting online platform.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Kalanithi Maran and the team took part in the IPL for the first time in 2013. Sunrisers Hyderabad came on board when Deccan Chargers were terminated from the league in 2012. In their debut season, they made a giant stride to qualify for the playoffs. The team got their breakthrough when they emerged champions in 2016 beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the finals. They enjoyed a great run between 2017-2020, managing to qualify for the playoffs. In 2021, their downfall started and didn’t go well in the next two seasons as they settled for League stages.

The franchise is currently doing well in the 2024 edition, under newly appointed skipper Pat Cummins and Head Coach Daniel Vettori. Kumar Sangakkara, Cameron White, Shikhar Dhawan, Darren Sammy, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, and Aiden Markram are the captains to lead the team in the previous years. Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the highest team total in the IPL, registering 287 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Rajasthan Royals didn’t have great success in the IPL, apart from clinching the title in the inaugural season they managed to qualify for the playoffs only on four occasions later on. They made it to the finals for the second time in 2022 and eventually got beaten at the hands of Gujarat Titans.

They were suspended for match-fixing allegations in the 2016 and 2017 editions. Shane Warne, Rahul Dravid, Shane Watson, Steven Smith, and Ajinkya Rahane have led the side in different years. Sanju Samson is the current skipper and under him the side is doing exceptionally well, winning 8 of their 9 matches to occupy the top position in the standings.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Daredevils rebranded as Delhi Capitals when JSW Sports bought the 50 per cent stake in 2018. The franchise plays its home games in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The Capitals haven’t had great success in the league’s history. Their best result to date is qualifying for the finals in 2020 where they lost to Mumbai Indians. They lost in the Semi-Finals in the first two seasons and entered the Playoffs in 2012, 2019, and 2021. Between 2013-2018 they were consistently poor and settled for the league stages.

Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik, James Hopes, Mahela Jayawardene, Ross Taylor, David Warner, Kevin Pietersen, JP Duminy, Zaheer Khan, Karun Nair, Shreyas Iyer have led the side. Rishabh Pant and Ricky Ponting are their current skipper and Head Coach respectively.

In the remaining editions, they ended up in the league stages. Kings have used as many as 15 skippers to date which is the most by any team in the IPL. They shifted their new home to Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur this year from I.S Bindra Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

In the ongoing season, they are currently placed 8th in the standings with 6 points.

Owned by CVC Capital Partners, the Gujarat Titans franchise made their first IPL appearance in the 2022 edition and made history in the inaugural edition to be crowned as champions beating Rajasthan Royals in the finals at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. Hardik Pandya’s captaincy gained a lot of appreciation as he led the side to the title in his first stint as the skipper. Titans backed up their performance in the following edition but missed out on winning back-to-back titles with a last-ball defeat to Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 finals.

In the bustling heart of Mumbai, amidst the fervor of IPL 2024, cricket aficionados witnessed a historic moment that transcended individual milestones and epitomized the essence of team spirit. At the iconic Wankhede Stadium, on a sun-kissed Sunday afternoon of April 7th, the Mumbai Indians (MI) etched their name in the annals of cricketing history with an extraordinary Mumbai Indians score of 234/5 against the Delhi Capitals (DC), marking the highest team score in T20 cricket without a single batsman notching a half-century.

In a display of sheer dominance, MI showcased their formidable batting prowess against the Delhi Capitals, scripting a narrative that would reverberate across cricketing circles. Their monumental IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians score of 234/5 stood as a testament to their collective brilliance, etching their name in the record books. In an era where individual milestones often hog the limelight, MI’s record-breaking IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians score served as a poignant reminder of the power of unity and cohesion in the pursuit of excellence on the cricketing field. The IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians‘ performance wasn’t just about scoring runs; it was a masterclass in teamwork and determination, setting the stage for an electrifying season ahead.

The Clash of Titans: MI vs. DC

Amid the electrifying clash between MI and DC in IPL 2024’s 20th fixture, the anticipation of witnessing the highest score in IPL history hung thick in the air. MI’s formidable lineup, adorned with seasoned veterans and emerging talents alike, seemed poised to etch their name in the record books with the highest score in IPL. When the final run was scored, MI emerged victorious, not only securing the win but also etching their name in history with the highest score in IPL, a testament to their collective brilliance on the field.

Amidst the electrifying clash between MI and DC, the pursuit of the highest score in IPL history loomed large, casting a thrilling backdrop to the unfolding drama on the field. Each boundary and calculated maneuver brought them closer to achieving the highest score in IPL, igniting a fervor among the crowd. However, beyond individual achievements, MI’s triumph highlighted the pivotal role of teamwork and collaboration in cricket’s narrative.

The Symphony of Contributions

The record-breaking innings of MI in IPL 2024 not only secured a victory over DC by a resounding margin of 29 runs but also highlighted the team’s depth and versatility remarkably. It was a testament to MI’s collective strength and unity that propelled them to success, rather than relying solely on the heroics of one player. This match served as a perfect example of how cricket is truly a team sport, where every member’s contribution, no matter how small, plays a crucial role in determining the outcome.

In the fiercely competitive arena of T20 cricket, IPL 2024 MI’s triumph underscores the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving success. It’s a reminder that individual brilliance, while valuable, is often eclipsed by the combined efforts of a cohesive unit. The IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians’ victory wasn’t just about outplaying their opponents; it was a testament to their unwavering unity and shared determination to emerge victorious in the face of formidable challenges.

Stalwarts Leading the Charge

In the exhilarating clash between MI and DC, four key players emerged as the driving force behind MI’s formidable performance. Rohit Sharma’s aggressive innings of 49 runs off 27 deliveries laid a solid foundation for MI’s batting onslaught, setting the stage for what was to come. Ishan Kishan’s fearless approach at the crease, evidenced by his audacious 42 off 23 balls, injected further momentum into MI’s innings, ensuring that the pressure remained squarely on the opposition.

The Mumbai Indians score soared high, propelled by the collective display of batting brilliance from their key players. Each boundary and every run added to the Mumbai Indians score, highlighting the significance of teamwork in cricket. As the Mumbai Indians score continued to climb, it became evident that their victory was a result of collective effort and synchronized teamwork. This triumph serves as a reminder of the power of collaboration in attaining collective goals, transcending the boundaries of cricket to inspire success in various endeavors.

Navigating Through Challenges

As the euphoria of MI’s victory reverberated across the Wankhede Stadium, there lingered a faint whisper of missed opportunity amidst the jubilation. Hardik Pandya’s knock of 39 off 33 balls, though commendable, left spectators contemplating what could have been if he had exhibited a higher strike rate. With his explosive batting prowess, Pandya had the potential to propel MI to an even more formidable total, thereby further tightening the screws on the opposition.

Nevertheless, amidst the scrutiny of IPL 2024 Pandya’s innings, Romario Shepherd emerged as the beacon of MI’s triumph, showcasing his all-round brilliance on the field. Shepherd’s impactful performance not only with the bat but also with the ball, where he claimed the crucial scalp of the formidable David Warner, underscored his match-winning capabilities. The IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians’ victory was a collective effort, with each player stepping up when it mattered most, embodying the ethos of teamwork and dedication that defines the essence of the sport.

Individual Brilliance vs. Team Effort

In the aftermath of the intense clash between MI and DC, the cricketing fraternity engaged in fervent analysis, unraveling contrasting narratives that encapsulated the essence of the game. The juxtaposition between individual brilliance and collective team contribution became glaringly apparent, casting a spotlight on the contrasting fortunes of MI and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the preceding fixtures. While MI’s victory underscored the significance of teamwork and collective effort in achieving success, RCB’s defeat highlighted the perils of relying too heavily on individual performances at the expense of team cohesion.

The contrasting outcomes of MI and RCB in their respective fixtures serve as a poignant reminder of the dichotomy between individual glory and collective team success in cricket. While individual brilliance may shine brightly on occasion, it is ultimately the collective synergy and cohesion of the team that determines long-term success in the sport. This inference emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between individual talent and teamwork, as teams that prioritize collective contributions over individual accolades are more likely to emerge victorious in the unpredictable realm of cricket.

The Essence of MI’s Triumph

MI’s record-breaking performance in IPL 2024 transcends mere statistical achievements, embodying the core values of cricket itself. It stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, resilience, and collective endeavor in shaping the outcome of a match. Beyond the numbers on the scoreboard, MI’s feat symbolizes the spirit of unity and camaraderie that lies at the heart of the sport. It underscores the notion that cricket is not merely a contest between individual talents but a collaborative effort where every player’s contribution is essential to the team’s success.

As cricketing enthusiasts celebrate IPL 2024 MI’s historic achievement, a profound realization emerges: in the dynamic and unpredictable landscape of T20 cricket, the collective strength of a team often outshines the brilliance of individual stars. IPL 2024 MI’s triumph serves as a reminder that in cricket, as in life, success is not determined solely by individual prowess but by the collective resilience and determination of the team as a whole. The IPL 2024 Mumbai Indians’ victory resonates beyond the boundaries of the cricket field, inspiring countless individuals to embrace the spirit of teamwork and collaboration in their own pursuits, both on and off the pitch.

Along with Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madhushanka, and Nuwan Thushara are the fast bowlers in the MI squad who will be running in full steam to help MI reach the playoffs and make them the IPL betting online favourites. Akash Madhwal is a young bowler in the squad who is a nice backup bowler.

The other strength as per our IPL betting tips in this Mumbai Indians squad is the overseas all-rounders in their squad. Romario Shepherd, Tim David, and Mohammad Nabi are the players in the squad who are absolute game-changers in the T20 format and can win matches in any situation.

Mumbai Indians Team Weaknesses

To be honest, there are not many glaring weaknesses in this Mumbai Indians team. All the bases have been covered brilliantly, and the team looks set to dominate proceedings in the upcoming season of the IPL.

Although, if we look at the team closely, one issue comes up that could have been addressed better. There are leg-spinners in the team, but in the T20 format and a competitive league like the IPL, you need the best of the lot, which is not available in the Mumbai franchise. Piyush Chawla and Shreyas Gopal are the two leg-spinners who will be expected to do the job for the team without a quality leg-spinner.

The other weakness, which is not a huge concern, is the lack of good backup players for the Indian players in case of injuries, but we think they will be fine without that in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians Team X-factor Player

You must have heard this statement at least once in your life if you are an avid cricket fan: “Batters win you matches whereas bowlers win you tournaments.” According to our IPL betting tips in our IPL team analysis 2024 section, Jasprit Bumrah is the x-factor player in this Mumbai Indians team.

Bumrah is a world-class bowler, probably the current best all-format bowler in international cricket, and he will be donning the MI jersey in this season of the league. He is a player who can bowl well in every aspect of the game, be it with the new ball, the middle overs, or the death overs. He is every captain’s trump card and the best wicket-taking option.

We feel Bumrah is the player whose performance will be directly proportional to MI’s chances in the IPL 2024 season, and he will be their x-factor player. If you do IPL betting online, Jasprit Bumrah should be your best bet for the purple cap winner of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.

Who will lead Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024?

The Mumbai Indians team was led by the current Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, and we all expected that to continue in this upcoming season until one day, the Mumbai Indians’ team management decided to announce that Hardik Pandya will be leading the team in IPL 2024.

This came as a shock to everyone, as Rohit has been a wonderful captain and led MI to five IPL titles, but the reason for giving the leadership to Pandya was that Rohit could focus more on his batting and play freely at the top for his IPL franchise.

Hardik Pandya was traded from the Gujarat Titans for this sole reason in an all-cash deal. Pandya has also shown that he has leadership qualities and can be a good leader. During his two-year tenure at the Gujarat Titans as the captain of the team, he successfully led them to two IPL finals and even won the trophy on his first attempt.
