The story of every India T20 captain is one of evolution, adaptability, and success. Since India’s first-ever T20 International in 2006, different leaders have shaped the team’s identity through fearless cricket, tactical innovation, and major ICC triumphs. From MS Dhoni’s calm leadership to Rohit Sharma’s trophy-winning era and Suryakumar Yadav’s successful title defence, every captain has left a lasting mark on Indian cricket. Now, in 2026, a new chapter begins as Shreyas Iyer takes charge of the India T20 team, carrying the responsibility of guiding a new generation towards future global success.

India T20 Captain List: The Evolution of Leadership

Captaincy in T20 cricket is unlike any other format. Every over demands quick thinking. Every bowling change can alter the outcome. A single tactical error can undo an otherwise perfect performance. That is why the role of an India T20 captain extends far beyond calling the toss or setting the field. Since making their T20 International debut against South Africa in Johannesburg on December 1, 2006, the India national cricket team has experienced multiple leadership transitions. Each India cricket team captain inherited a different challenge, whether it was establishing India’s identity in the shortest format, rebuilding after a major tournament, or preparing the squad for the next generation.

In total, 15 players have captained India’s men’s T20I side. Some led for a single game. Others built dynasties. Together, they form one of the richest leadership histories in international cricket. The table below presents the complete India T20 captain list, highlighting every India team captain, their overall record, and the defining achievements of their respective tenures.

Virender Sehwag became the first-ever T20 captain of India, leading the side to victory in its inaugural T20I. His tenure lasted just one match, but it marked the beginning of a remarkable leadership journey. The baton was then passed to MS Dhoni, who transformed the India T20 team into world champions in 2007 and laid the blueprint for sustained success. His calm decision-making, trust in young players, and tactical brilliance established the benchmark for every future captain of Indian cricket team.

As Indian cricket evolved, so did its leadership. Virat Kohli brought intensity and consistency. Rohit Sharma delivered another T20 World Cup while becoming the most successful T20 captain of India in terms of victories. Suryakumar Yadav continued that winning culture by guiding India to another world title before Shreyas Iyer ushered in the latest era as the India T20 captain 2026.

A Leadership Timeline That Continues to Evolve

Looking at the India T20 captain list, one pattern becomes immediately clear. Every leadership change has reflected the team’s priorities then. Dhoni built a winning culture from scratch. Kohli raised fitness standards and competitive intensity. Rohit Sharma converted consistency into another ICC trophy, while Suryakumar Yadav maintained India’s dominance by leading the side to the 2026 T20 World Cup title.

Now, the responsibility shifts to Shreyas Iyer, the new current captain of Indian cricket team in T20 Internationals. His appointment signals another strategic transition as India prepares for the next phase of international cricket. But before understanding why the selectors turned to Iyer, it’s worth taking a closer look at the four leaders who defined modern India’s success in T20 cricket. Their captaincy records, achievements, and lasting influence explain why the role of an India T20 captain carries such enormous expectations.

MS Dhoni: The Captain Who Built India’s T20 Legacy

When discussions begin around the India best captain, one name inevitably leads the conversation—MS Dhoni. Taking charge during the infancy of T20 Internationals, Dhoni transformed an inexperienced squad into world champions and laid the foundation for India’s long-term success in the format. His leadership extended from 2007 to 2016, making him the longest-serving India captain in T20Is with 72 matches at the helm. More importantly, his tenure established the tactical identity that future captains would inherit.

Although MS Dhoni’s captaincy record does not boast the highest win percentage among Indian leaders, context is essential. He captained the India national cricket team during a period when T20 cricket itself was evolving. Every tournament demanded experimentation, making Dhoni’s achievements even more remarkable.

The Biggest Achievements of MS Dhoni

Dhoni’s defining moment arrived at the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Leading a youthful squad with little international T20 experience, he backed fearless cricket and unconventional thinking. It established the India T20 team as a global force and confirmed Dhoni as one of the finest white-ball captains in the sport.

Why MS Dhoni’s Legacy Still Matters

Numbers tell only part of the story. The true value of MS Dhoni’s captaincy record lies in the culture he created. Calm under pressure, instinctive with field placements, and willing to trust young cricketers, Dhoni redefined what leadership looked like for the captain of Indian cricket team. His blueprint continues to influence every modern India T20 captain, making him one of the most influential leaders in Indian cricket history.

Virat Kohli: The Captain Who Built India’s Bilateral Dominance

If Dhoni built India’s T20 foundation, Virat Kohli modernized it. Taking over the India cricket team captain role full-time in 2017, Kohli introduced a high-intensity culture centred on elite fitness, relentless aggression, and fearless cricket. His tenure produced consistent bilateral success and elevated India’s standards across overseas conditions.

While Virat Kohli’s captaincy produced an impressive 64% win rate, statistics alone do not fully capture his influence on the India T20 squad. His greatest achievement was creating a team capable of winning consistently away from home.

The Biggest Achievements of Virat Kohli

Under his leadership, India completed a historic 5-0 T20I whitewash in New Zealand while also registering significant bilateral series victories in Australia, England, and South Africa. These results reinforced India’s reputation as one of the world’s strongest travelling sides. Kohli accelerated India’s tactical evolution by backing fast-bowling all-rounders and encouraging an attacking powerplay philosophy. Rather than waiting for mistakes, India increasingly looked to force them—a strategic shift that influenced the next generation of leadership.

Virat Kohli’s Enduring Impact

Although an ICC T20 trophy eluded him as India T20 captain, Kohli left behind a stronger and fitter team than the one he inherited. His emphasis on professionalism, athleticism, and fearless cricket permanently reshaped the expectations attached to every India cricket team captain. The numbers show a successful leader. The standards he established may prove an even greater contribution.

Rohit Sharma: The Captain Who Redefined India’s T20 Blueprint

If MS Dhoni built the foundation and Virat Kohli elevated India’s competitiveness, Rohit Sharma transformed the philosophy of the India T20 team. Initially serving as Virat Kohli’s deputy, Rohit became the full-time India captain in 2022 and immediately introduced a bold tactical shift. The emphasis was no longer on preserving wickets or chasing personal milestones. Instead, every batter was expected to attack from the very first ball. The result? A fearless brand of cricket that culminated in one of the greatest campaigns in Indian T20 history.

Among every India T20 captain, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy record stands out for its consistency. His 49 victories remain the highest by any captain of Indian cricket team in T20 Internationals.

The Biggest Achievements of Rohit Sharma

Rohit’s defining achievement came during the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. India completed the tournament unbeaten, combining fearless batting with disciplined bowling to lift another global title. Rohit’s tactical flexibility proved equally important. Rather than relying on fixed combinations, he expertly rotated Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja depending on conditions, creating a spin attack capable of controlling the middle overs while preserving specialist bowlers for the death.

Rohit Sharma’s Lasting Legacy

Statistics only reinforce what Indian supporters already witnessed. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy record represents far more than victories. He fundamentally changed the batting mindset of the India national cricket team, replacing risk-averse cricket with relentless intent. Future India team captain appointments will inevitably be judged against the standards established during Rohit’s leadership. More importantly, the aggressive blueprint he created would become the platform on which India’s next India T20 captain built an even more dominant era.

Suryakumar Yadav: The Captain Who Perfected India’s Winning Formula

Replacing a World Cup-winning captain is never easy. Yet Suryakumar Yadav ensured India’s momentum never slowed. Taking over the India T20 captain role full-time in 2024, he embraced the fearless philosophy introduced by Rohit while adding his own player-first leadership style. Instead of rigid tactical control, Suryakumar empowered players to trust their instincts, creating one of the most successful periods in India’s T20 history.

By pure numbers, Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy record ranks among the finest ever produced by an India cricket team captain in T20 Internationals. His remarkable win percentage reflected India’s complete dominance across bilateral series and global tournaments.

The Biggest Achievements of Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar’s greatest success came during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Tasked with defending India’s title, he handled the immense expectations of leading the hosts with remarkable composure. Rather than allowing external pressure to influence preparations, he kept the squad focused solely on execution, guiding India to consecutive T20 World Cup triumphs.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Lasting Legacy

Few captains have exited international cricket under such contrasting circumstances. On one hand, Suryakumar Yadav left behind a remarkable record that included a World Cup triumph, an Asia Cup title, and an unbeaten run across bilateral series. On the other hand, his declining batting returns ultimately outweighed those achievements in the selectors’ long-term planning. His tenure demonstrated an important reality of modern cricket. Results matter. But sustained individual performance matters just as much.

Why Shreyas Iyer Is the New T20 Captain of India?

Every captaincy change tells a story. Sometimes it follows a prolonged slump. Sometimes it comes after a disappointing ICC campaign. However, the BCCI’s decision in June 2026 surprised almost everyone, coming just months after India defended its T20 World Cup crown. The appointment of Shreyas Iyer as the new India T20 captain wasn’t a reaction to one tournament. It was a calculated move designed to shape the next chapter of the India national cricket team. Rather than rewarding past achievements, the selectors focused on where the team needed to be in two years. That long-term vision ultimately led to one of the boldest leadership decisions in recent Indian cricket history.

Why Did Suryakumar Yadav Lose the Captaincy?

Behind the team’s success, selectors identified a worrying trend in Yadav’s individual performances. Since the beginning of 2025, his batting numbers had declined dramatically. Across 20 T20I innings, he averaged just 12.84, while IPL 2026 yielded only 270 runs. For a player whose game depended heavily on lightning-fast reflexes and innovative strokeplay, the prolonged dip raised legitimate concerns about whether he could maintain that standard over another World Cup cycle.
Age also became a factor. At 35, Suryakumar Yadav was approaching the latter stages of his T20 career. Rather than delaying an inevitable transition, the BCCI opted for decisive action by leaving him out of the India T20 squad altogether. It was a ruthless call. But it was also a strategic one.

Why the Selectors Chose Shreyas Iyer?

If removing a World Cup-winning captain demanded courage, appointing Shreyas Iyer required conviction. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar viewed Iyer as the ideal leader to bridge India’s present and future. While he had spent time away from the T20I setup, his leadership credentials in franchise cricket remained impossible to ignore.
His IPL résumé spoke for itself. Iyer guided Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title while also leading Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to finals, proving his ability to manage squads with different combinations, personalities, and tactical demands. That adaptability played a major role in the BCCI’s decision. Unlike a short-term appointment, Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy represents the beginning of another development cycle for the India T20 team. His leadership is expected to provide stability while simultaneously integrating the next generation of Indian cricketers.

England Tour: Shreyas Iyer’s First Major Leadership Test

While the Ireland series offers Shreyas Iyer his first taste of international captaincy, his biggest examination arrives almost immediately afterward. India’s five-match T20I tour of England, scheduled between 1 and 11 July, presents a completely different challenge.
English conditions demand adaptability. Swing with the new ball, shorter boundaries, aggressive batting, and relentless pressure from England’s attacking philosophy make every tactical decision more significant. For the new India T20 captain, the England vs India 2026 series offers an opportunity to demonstrate whether his leadership style can succeed away from home against one of the world’s strongest white-ball teams.

GUGOBET’s Smart Tips for Betting on T20 Matches

T20 cricket changes rapidly. A single over can completely alter momentum, making preparation just as important as instinct. Before placing your next wager on GUGOBET, consider these practical strategies.

Take Advantage of Live Betting

Momentum shifts quickly in T20 cricket. Using GUGOBET’s live dashboard lets you react immediately to a wicket, a big over, or a tactical bowling change, rather than relying solely on pre-match predictions.

Explore More Than Just the Match Winner Market

Modern T20 betting extends far beyond predicting who wins. Markets such as Powerplay runs, Top Batter, Top Bowler, and Player Performance often provide opportunities if you’ve researched recent form and match-ups in advance.

Confirmed Playing XI

Confirmed line-ups reveal late injury changes and tactical adjustments. Waiting until the India T20 captain announces the final XI gives you more reliable information than relying on predicted teams.

Watch Momentum Instead of the Scoreboard

A team may appear behind on the scoreboard but still control the game. If established finishers remain at the crease or quality death bowlers are yet to bowl, live odds may temporarily undervalue their chances. Recognizing these moments is often where informed bettors gain an advantage.

Looking Ahead

The appointment of Shreyas Iyer marks the beginning of another fascinating chapter for the India T20 captain role. He inherits a team that has enjoyed unprecedented success under Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, but he also carries the responsibility of preparing India’s next generation for the challenges ahead.
With an exciting England tour on the horizon and fresh leadership at the helm, there will be no shortage of tactical storylines to follow. Whether you’re analysing team selections, tracking player form, or making your own match predictions on GUGOBET, understanding the strategies behind every captaincy decision will only make your betting strategy more rewarding.

Top 10 All-Time Legends of Men’s Cricket

Men’s cricket has seen a list of superlative talents whose very mention is associated with brilliance, dominance, and longevity in the game. From the earliest days of Test cricket to the contemporary era of exciting limited-overs cricket, very few cricketers have changed the game’s narrative forever.

Previously, we had mentioned the top 10 all-time legends of women’s cricket. In this article, we will discuss the top 10 all-time legends in men’s cricket, who have the consistency, records, and influence to be considered not only national heroes but true cricketing legends.

It is very subjective to decide who is the best cricket player in the world, but after considering the ICC rankings, achievements, and influence, we will discuss the most celebrated personalities in the history of men’s cricket.

How Does the ICC Ranking Play a Part In?

While cricket’s emotional core thrives on fandom and folklore, ICC rankings provide one of the few objective metrics to evaluate performance over time.

Whether batting, bowling, or all‑round impact, the world best cricket player tag often aligns with consistency at the highest level, something the ICC rating system attempts to quantify.

Rankings evaluate output across formats, rewarding longevity and peak performance. When we select the top 10 cricket legends, we consider their highest ranking peaks, duration of excellence, match-winning influence, and consistency in staying among the elite, which are key factors in identifying the greatest cricketer of all time.

Though not the only factor, ICC ranking helps anchor these players within a measurable framework, especially when debating who is the best cricket player in the world.

Impact Beyond Their Own Team

Great players transcend their teams; they become global icons, ambassadors, and inspirations. From generating new fan bases in non-traditional cricket nations to setting benchmarks in fitness, technique, and professionalism, the greatest figures in men’s cricket reshape culture as much as records.

These legends influence coaching paradigms, inspire future generations, and elevate the sport’s brand worldwide, making them more than mere champions; they are architects of modern cricket itself.

Top 10 Legends of Men’s Cricket

The following sections profile the ten greatest cricket players of all time. Each profile includes a brief narrative and a concise statistics table to underscore their accomplishments.

1. Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka)

The maestro from Sri Lanka is widely regarded as the best spin bowler in the history of men’s cricket. Muttiah Muralitharan is a name synonymous with finger-tipping control, deception, and longevity.

The maestro across all formats terrorised batsmen with his array of variations, drifts, and vicious turns to earn him the title of world’s best bowler in spin.

In all different conditions, opponents and formats, Muralitharan has stood out as the one who could adapt from Test cricket to ODIs without compromising his edge. Murali’s bowling records are untouchable, and this speaks volumes about his longevity and skill as a bowler.

Beyond the numbers, Muralitharan’s impact extends across the globe. He inspired an entire generation of Asian spin bowlers to innovate and extend the limits, and the Western batsmen to think anew about how to combat the very best of spin.

Off the field, his integrity and determination, especially in his early years as the issue of his actions came under the microscope, helped to win respect as a genuine ambassador for the game.

Muttiah Muralitharan’s impact is the pivot around which the rise of Sri Lanka as a force to reckon with revolved. Over the years, his rankings were reflective of his value, and he remained among the top in the rankings for bowlers for long periods of time.

When the discussion is about the best in the world of cricket, his name is sure to find mention among the bowlers who changed the game.

2. Wasim Akram (Pakistan)

When the topic of fast bowling legends comes up, one name stands out, and that is the inimitable Wasim Akram, the “Sultan of Swing.” The world over, Akram is celebrated as a master bowler, and his style was not just fast, but his ability to swing and skid the ball left everyone on the edge of their seats.

Born in Lahore in 1966, Wasim quickly climbed the rungs of the career ladder to establish himself as one of the sport’s most fearsome bowlers. His strength was that he was able to utilise both conventional swing bowling and the dreaded reverse swing to devastating effect in the 1990s alongside his colleague Waqar Younis.

Akram’s resume boasts many impressive achievements. He took 502 ODI wickets, becoming the first bowler in the history of the format to claim 500 wickets in ODI cricket. His Test career ended with a tally of 414 wickets, the most for a left-arm pacer of his era.

Akram’s World Cup achievements are the stuff of legend, particularly in the 1992 final when two bursts of pace took Pakistan to its only ODI championship.

Apart from the figures, the way Akram read the ball, exploited the pitch, and outsmarted the batsmen made him a nightmare for the opposition and a delight for the spectators. Off the field, the larger-than-life personality of the bowler and his commentary kept the game of cricket alive for a new generation of spectators long after the bowler himself had retired.

Today, as the debate about the greatest fast bowlers continues, the name of Wasim Akram still figures at the pinnacle.

3. Shane Warne (Australia)

Shane Warne’s arrival on the international stage revolutionised men’s cricket and established him as one of the top cricket legends ever. The Australian leg‑spinner brought flair, aggression, and a strategic brain to spin bowling that had rarely been seen before.

Warne’s charisma and match‑turning deliveries made him not only the world best bowler of his generation but also one of cricket’s most marketable icons.

Warne revolutionised how spin bowlers deliver and how they are regarded in the game of cricket. Any conversation about the best players in the history of the game would be incomplete without mentioning that fact. He was always one step ahead of the best hitters in the world due to his high level of intelligence in terms of tactics.

The influence of Warne was not only confined to the wickets he took or the run-outs he effected. Warne took Australian cricket to the forefront of world cricket, particularly in the Test format, in the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Off the field, his international fame took cricket to a new audience in parts of the world where spin bowling was not so popular.

Warne motivated a new generation of cricket players all over the world to take up spin bowling, a trend which can still be seen in the present day in the array of spin bowlers available.

ICC rankings throughout his career reflected his dominance, with extended stints as the top‑ranked bowler in Tests.

The debate around who is the best cricket player in the world often features Warne when bowling brilliance is at the forefront.

4. James Anderson (England)

When the term ‘swing bowling’ is mentioned in the context of men’s cricket, the first thought that comes to mind is James Anderson, with immense respect and admiration. After playing the game at the highest level for 21 years, the veteran is arguably the best swing bowler the game has to offer in the modern era.

James Anderson has evolved into a masterful swing bowler, capable of outsmarting the world’s best batsmen with the uncanny ability to move the ball both ways, even in the toughest conditions.

More than just a speedster, he combines blistering pace with pinpoint precision, flawless rhythm, and unwavering discipline — a lethal mix that has kept him at the top of the English bowling attack far longer than most fast bowlers ever dream of.

James Anderson’s longevity is a testament to his dedication to the craft: 188 Test matches, the most by a fast bowler in the history of the format, and 704 wickets in Test cricket, the most by an Englishman and third on the all-time list in Test cricket history.

The English pacer continued taking wickets in his forties, further proving that fast bowlers can be at their peak in their forties. Anderson’s talent was not restricted to home conditions; he improved and developed as a bowler, proving that he was dangerous in different conditions all over the world and continued to improve his craft, especially in his latter years.

Off the field, his contribution is not defined by numbers alone. Young fast bowlers across England look up to his discipline, professionalism, and work ethic for inspiration towards success. His contribution to the English dressing room in terms of steadying influence spans generations.

Today, in debates about the best fast bowlers in the history of the game, Anderson’s name is always near the top, not just for his success but for his longevity in the sport.

5. Don Bradman (Australia)

When discussing the best batsman in the history of cricket, one name that stands above all others is Sir Don Bradman, a name that evokes a magical quality when discussing batting in the sport.

To the Australians between 1928 and 1948, Bradman’s batting may not have merely turned heads; it altered the very history of the game. Bradman’s 99.94 batting average in test matches is one of the most iconic statistics in all of sports.

It is not that Bradman accumulated runs; he defined the term mastery. In 52 test matches, Bradman accumulated 6,996 runs, 29 centuries, and 12 double tons, always maintaining a pace that left bowlers and spectators thunderstruck. Bradman’s statistics were not just great; they were so far ahead of his peers that they set a benchmark for batting greatness for generations.

However, “The Don” was not just about numbers. In a rough period in which the Great Depression and world turmoil reigned, his bat work inspired pride and happiness for millions across the globe.

“The Don” was not just about statistics; he changed batting in ways that emphasised a combination of skill, mental strength, and uncanny hand-eye coordination that continues to be reflected in modern-day batting instruction.

Even without formal ICC rankings in his time, posthumous analyses place Bradman consistently at the very top of any all‑time best batsmen list.

For cricket historians and fans, he isn’t just a record holder; he’s the ultimate symbol of batting excellence, a benchmark for greatness that all players still strive to reach.

6. Sachin Tendulkar (India)

Over the decades, only a select few cricketers have left a mark that truly stands the test of time, and at the very forefront of these legends is Sachin Tendulkar, widely hailed as the God of Cricket.

Across a remarkable 24-year international career, Tendulkar did far more than just accumulate runs — he completely reshaped the record books and set benchmarks that may never be surpassed.

His 34,357 international runs make him the highest run-getter in men’s cricket history. This figure surpasses all other competitors by a wide margin. His achievement in this field remains unbeaten. To be more precise, Sachin scored 15,921 runs in Test matches and 18,426 runs in ODI matches.

Both records remain unbeaten. In addition to this, Sachin is the only male cricketer to have scored 100 international hundreds. He scored 51 hundreds in Test matches and 49 hundreds in ODI matches.

Tendulkar’s greatness wasn’t merely about the numbers; it was his consistency, whether in the blistering sun or the drizzle of the Indian monsoon, against pitches and bowlers from everywhere that spoke to his adaptability and skill.

For three decades, he blended technique and concentration, inspiring a generation of young batsmen, from Virat Kohli to Kane Williamson, to model their games on his.

Besides the statistics, Tendulkar’s passion for batting has generated many statistics, but it has also generated many spirits.

The cricket fever in the nation was rekindled by Tendulkar’s incredible performances on the global platform, particularly the triumph in the 2011 World Cup.

Tendulkar may be about the numbers, but more than that, he’s about the humility, the hard work, and the unwavering dedication to the pursuit of perfection. These things elevate him to the level of a batting icon and keep alive the debate about who really is the greatest cricketer the world has to offer.

ODIs 463 18,426 44.83 49/96

7. Brian Lara (West Indies)

Whenever the discussion of the greatest batsmen in cricket is initiated, Brian Lara, the Caribbean cricket legend from the West Indies, somehow manages to hog the limelight.

Despite Lara’s accumulation of runs in an unrelenting manner, he had an almost supernatural ability to get the required run when the situation demanded it. In his illustrious West Indies career, Lara scored 11,953 Test runs at an average above 50.

What is truly special about Lara is that he has an uncanny ability to make history with the bat. He holds the record for the highest individual score in a Test match: an unbeaten 400 against England in 2004. This remarkable knock, along with his previous record score of 375 in 1994, illustrates not just talent but an unshakeable belief at the crease.

Lara combined traditional skill with innovative and imaginative strokes, which revolutionised the approach to big innings and how bowlers could be attacked. His ability to shine in adversity, against top-class opposition, and in high-pressure situations made him a sure-match winner for his team.

Outside the field, Lara continued to promote the West Indies’ cricket culture to a global audience, inspiring many young cricketers across the world. His charismatic personality, record-breaking achievements, and elegant batting skills helped him transcend from a cricket icon to a sporting icon, and his name is always included in a list of all-time greats in the sport.

Indian Cricket Legends Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli Retire From T20Is

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli Retire From T20Is

It is not every day that a nation of approximately 1.3 billion people who have not seen their cricket team win an ICC trophy in the past 11 years think that their recent T20I World Cup victory is bittersweet. But when the heart and soul of the team announced their retirement from the format on the same day, the sweet taste of victory faded.

This is exactly what happened with the Indian cricket team and their die-hard fans, as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced that the T20 World Cup Final 2024 against South Africa was their last match in the Indian jersey in T20 Internationals.

Even though both the players announced it normally and it did not seem to be an obvious decision for them, everyone in the cricket fraternity was shell-shocked because of this decision, as no one saw it coming. Virat Kohli even said it was an open secret, but it did not seem like one to his fans or those who admire the sport.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the top two run scorers in the history of T20I cricket, and that pretty much sums up what they have done over the years in the format. At least they have received the perfect farewell and bid adieu to the T20Is with a World Cup victory.

Although, if you ask us, these legends should never retire and just keep playing cricket. But we all have to believe that the inevitable has happened, and we should now respect and appreciate these legends of the game for what they have done for Indian cricket. It is time we take a look back at their respective journeys in the T20I format and celebrate these absolute legends of the sport.

Rohit Sharma

There are numerous records that Rohit Sharma has broken in the T20I format, and we will talk about all of them, including Rohit Sharma’s stats in the format, but we will first take a glance at what Rohit Sharma meant for Indian cricket and how his retirement will affect the team.

For Indian cricket, Rohit was the fuel that was the utmost priority to run the bus of the Indian cricket team. He made his debut in 2007 and was a part of the team that lifted the T20 World Cup in the same year. He showed glimpses of what was to come in the coming years in 2007 and took it to unbelievable heights.

The only Indian player to feature in all the editions of the T20 World Cup so far has always stood out from the crowd because of his exquisite timing. Everyone who has seen him closely says that while batting, Rohit’s timing is so excellent that he makes everyone feel like he has a 1-second extra. The batter has been a perfect example of leading from the front, as what he expected his team to do in this tournament, he did himself, and the others followed.

After starting his T20I career as a middle-order batter, Rohit transformed himself into an opening batter and brought a change to Indian cricket as he started batting explosively at the top. His glorious pull shot is a sight to behold, and the way he attacks off-spinners coming down the track is something only he can do.

Apart from putting a full stop to his T20I career being the highest run-scorer in the format (4231 runs), Rohit has scored five centuries in T20I cricket, which is the joint-most number by any player in history. He has a strike rate of almost 140 and an average of 32.05. The Indian captain has also scored the most sixes by any player in the T20Is (205).

Rohit Sharma’s highest score in T20Is is 121*, which he scored as an opening batter. More than just putting his name in history and the record books, he has had a huge impact on transforming how India plays cricket in T20Is and has been an outstanding captain. Rohit Sharma’s retirement implies that India will miss seeing him go berserk from the very first ball in T20I cricket and take the bowlers to the cleaners with his huge sixes.

How many ICC trophies has Rohit Sharma won?

Rohit Sharma has won three ICC trophies in his cricket career thus far. The first ICC trophy he won was the 2007 T20 World Cup; the second was the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy; and the third was the ICC T20I World Cup 2024, which he won as a captain. The trophy cabinet of Rohit Sharma looks glorious, and he would want to add more trophies to it before he says the final goodbye.

Virat Kohli

Even if we write something here, it would not be enough to justify what this man has done for Indian cricket day in and day out. The elite mindset of Virat Kohli and the attitude where he believes he can chase any target with the willow in his hand are the two things that have ensured that Indian cricket stays at the top in this format and also wins an ICC trophy.

In his final T20I innings, Kohli showed everyone what India would miss as it was his innings that helped India win that final against the Proteas. Kohli is not believed to have an attacking style of batting which is more suited for the shortest format, but over the years, he has shown that a player like Virat Kohli can do anything in any format. In the era of fours and sixes, Kohli has made the cricket fraternity realise the importance of singles and doubles in the 20-over format.

The list of match-winning innings played by Kohli where he single-handedly won India the match is huge. Although some of these innings were just out of this world such as Mirpur 2014 against South Africa, Mohali 2016 versus Australia, Melbourne 2022 against Pakistan, and many others. Kohli has not only earned fame and money from his T20I career but also the respect and faith of 1.3 billion Indians and a lot more people across the world. Kohli has an aura in this generation where he has dominated cricket for over a decade.

Just like an F1 car is always under development and constant work is going on the car to make it run faster, Virat Kohli works on his body during the off time so that he can be at the top of his game when the situation comes. Kohli has given his services to Indian cricket with 120% dedication and has finally won an ICC trophy after a very long time which is a result of his commitment to the blue jersey and tri-colour flag.

Talking about Virat Kohli’s stats in the format, he has bid adieu to T20 Internationals as the second-highest run-scorer in history with 4188 runs. Virat Kohli’s highest score in T20Is is 122* which he made against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup. Kohli has ended his career in this format with an impeccable average of 48 and a strike rate of 137.

After breaking numerous records and being the best in the business for over a decade, the run machine and the king of cricket have finally called it a day in the shortest format of the game. Now the focus will shift to winning that red ball trophy and completing that already decorated trophy cabinet.

How many ICC trophies has Virat Kohli won?

The number of ICC trophies won by Virat Kohli is also three in his cricket career to date. Kohli is the most decorated cricketer of all time, as he has won all the white-ball trophies. He was a part of the Indian team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup, beating Sri Lanka in the final, then won the ICC ODI Champions Trophy in 2013, and has now also won the T20 World Cup 2024. King Kohli has just one red-ball trophy to win before he completes cricket.

During an ongoing cricket match in 2012, when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were batting together, Sunil Gavaskar announced on air that these two players who are on your screen are going to be the face of Indian cricket for the coming years, and that is exactly what these two did. They not only represented Indian cricket but gave everything for the nation, saved them from a lot of difficult situations in infinite times, and finally got what they deserved.

Nonetheless, both of these players will continue to play a lot of cricket for India in Tests and ODIs, and we will continue to see them smashing the bowlers all over the ground and winning many more trophies for the team.

A Look To T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s Qualification Prediction

T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s Qualifiied Team’s Captain

As the tournament entered the business end all eyes will be on the teams who will make it to the Super 8. Like other ICC events, this edition also brought a lot of surprise elements with big teams knocked out at the Group stages. Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka are officially eliminated, and defending champions England who were on the verge of elimination got a great escape with a win over Namibia in their Group game.

The United States of America who got the rights to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 made an impression straight away that no one would have ever thought and secured a place in the Super 8s after upsetting Pakistan which went till the Super over. They finished 2nd in the Group A standings with 5 points.

Afghanistan, which is called a giant killer, has already advanced to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 with a game in hand. They started with a colossal 125-run win over Uganda and matched it up with an 84-run victory over New Zealand, the consistent team in the ICC tournaments. They extended their dream run and secured hat-tricks of wins, beating Papua New Guinea by 7 wickets. The underdogs’ tagline no longer holds them as they have already proved they can beat any side.

You can bet on the USA and Afghanistan to do well on our World Cup betting platform GUGOBET.

How many matches are in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 matches will begin on Wednesday, June 19th, and will be played on Tuesday till June 25th. Eight teams will be divided into two groups each where the top two teams from each Group will make it to the Semi-Finals. A total of 12 matches will be played in the Super 8s.

As of now(until June 15th) India, USA, Australia, Afghanistan, West Indies, and South Africa have qualified for the Super 8s. The remaining two spots are likely to be filled by Bangladesh and England.

India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will come in Group 1 whereas Group 2 will be formed by West Indies, South Africa, the USA, and England. North Sound, Gros Islet, Bridgetown, and Kingstown will host the entire leg of the Super 8.

Above mentioned information is helpful for World Cup betting on GUGOBET

How can India qualify for Super 8?

India became the first team from Group A to Qualify for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024 after winning their first 3 matches. Their fourth and final Group game against Canada was abandoned without a single ball bowled due to bad weather conditions as a result they topped the Group A standings with 7 points.

India in their first Super 8 fixture will play against Afghanistan on June 20th at Bridgetown followed by the game against Bangladesh (almost confirmed) on June 22nd at North Sound and will conclude their Super 8 campaign against mighty Australians on June 24th at Gros Islet.

Rohit Sharma and company who had played all their Group stage fixtures in the USA will find it difficult to acclimatise to the Caribbean conditions and will play against the sides who already know the conditions better.

Can Pakistan qualify for Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024?

Pakistan who arrived in the USA with a lot of ambitions to take part in the T20 World Cup 2024 has to return empty-handed to their own country. They might finish 3rd in Group A only if they beat Ireland in their final game and a no result will also give them the same position.

Who is likely to win the T20 World Cup 2024?

It’s always difficult to predict the winner of any ICC tournament, especially in this T20 World Cup 2024 with all the qualified teams for the Super 8 possessing an extraordinary level of skill set. On their day, they are always a threat to the opposition.

Going with team composition, experience, talent, current form, and ability to hold the pressure, we pick India to win the T20 World Cup 2024. Having played a lot under MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma has learned the art of handling the team well. His decision-making and field placements show how great a leader he is. Rohit Sharma was the main man behind in picking 3 spinners Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal for the T20 World Cup 2024 as Caribbean wickets are likely to be slow.

Men in Blue played their first 3 matches in unfamiliar conditions at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. They struggled to cope with the unevenness of the drop-in wickets and didn’t have the best of outings with the bat. World-class batter Virat Kohli’s rusty form tells us the story as he scored only 5 runs in 3 matches. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav are the only batters to score half-centuries for the team in T20 World Cup 2024 however it is Rishabh Pant who tops the most run-scorers list with 96 runs.

Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya will share the honours with the ball, picking up 7 wickets each while Jasprit Bumrah is the kingpin with two Player of the Match awards.

It’s worth a try to put your money on India to win the World Cup on our World Cup betting online platform.

Who are the defending T20 World Cup Champions?

England are the defending T20 World Cup Champions who beat Pakistan in the summit clash by 5 wickets courtesy of Sam Curran’s 3-wicket haul and talismanic all-rounder Ben Stokes’ unbeaten 52* runs. Nobody would have expected them to come this well after they lost their Group fixture against Ireland. That’s what champions teams do as Jos Buttler and his men rose above all the odds to clinch the T20 World Cup title for the 2nd time. They previously won the competition back in 2010 under Paul Collingwood.

Now things aren’t going smoothly for the Three Lions as they somehow managed to confirm their Super 8 qualification after beating Namibia but they need to thank Australia who beat Scotland.

Will India win the T20 World Cup 2024?

Team India in T20 World Cup 2024

The 9th edition of the T20 World Cup which is taking place in the USA and West Indies is in full swing and the fans worldwide are experiencing the tournament with utmost joy. It’s a different feeling for the USA hosting the showpiece for the first time. With surfaces being played slow, it’s not an ideal way to launch cricket in the country. Still, it somewhat helped in the development of the sport as the home side pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the ongoing edition, beating Pakistan in the superover to complete two wins in a row.

Till the end of the 22nd Match, India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa are leading their respective groups. Oman became the first team to get eliminated from the tournament after losing 3 matches on the bounce. T20 World Cup 2024 has already provided a couple of upsets, the first is Afghanistan beating New Zealand in Group C by a massive margin of 84 runs. From now on, whoever Afghanistan beats won’t be considered an upset as they have already established themselves at the highest level and their 6th place finish in the ICC Men’s World Cup held in the sub-continent was a testament to their skill set.

The second one is huge as the co-hosts the USA overcome 2009 champions Pakistan in the super-over to pull one of the all-time greatest upsets in the T20 World Cups.

In this article, we will discuss what are the odds for India to become the top contender to lift the title this year. It will be the last assignment for Head Coach Rahul Dravid whose contract will expire at the end of the tournament and the players want to give him a perfect send-off with an elusive ICC title which is lacking from the past 11 years.

India squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (vc), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Considering the squad balance, and experience they possess in our cricket betting app we predict inaugural champions India to lift the title for the second time.

Men in Blue in their T20 World Cup 2024 avatar made an outstanding start with a dominating 8-wicket win over Ireland. On an uneven Nassau County surface they made the most of the conditions to bowl out Paul Stirling and his men for a meagre 96 runs. Hardik Pandya was on top in the wickets column picking up 3 scalps while Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent spell of bowling where he bagged 2 wickets by conceding just 6 runs in his 3 overs.

Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Axar Patel got wickets to their name as well. The target might have been less but it required some efforts to achieve that and the brilliance of Rohit Sharma came into play as he scored the half-century in a grand style before getting retired hurt on 52. Rishabh Pant who was promoted to the No.3 position finished things with a reverse scoop six over third man to remain unbeaten on 36*.

In the follow-up, they faced the long-standing rivals Pakistan and came on top with a narrow 6-run win. They didn’t do well first-up with the bat in tough conditions, managing only 119 runs. They showed a lot of character and grit in the second half to pull off something unbelievable that nobody could ever imagine by keeping Men in Green for just 113. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s decision-making and field placements were spot-on in the high-voltage clash. Jasprit Bumrah once again proved to be the match-winner, picking up 3 wickets at an economy of 3.5 to bag consecutive Player of the Match honours.

They have concerns to address as Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav departed for single-digit scores in both their innings and the inclusion of all-rounder Shivam Dube to get balance and more batting depth hasn’t yielded results yet.

In their remaining Group games, they will face the USA on 12th June at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York followed by a match against Canada on 15th June at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.

If things go well, they will finish as the Group A leaders with 8 points in their store. By predicting other Group results, Rohit Sharma and company might face Afghanistan, either Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, and England or Scotland in Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024.

T20 World Cup 2024 India Top Picks

Jasprit Bumrah:

Jasprit Bumrah’s ability to bowl under pressure makes him a world-class bowler at this point. With the tournament turning out to be bowling-friendly at the start his expertise is essential for Team India who look to end their 11-year ICC trophy drought.

The 30-year-old made a statement that he is the best in the business, picking up 5 wickets in 2 matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He was the chief architect behind India’s stunning win over Pakistan where he bagged 3 wickets including the game-changing wicket of well-set Mohammad Rizwan in his penultimate over. Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed were his other victims.

In our cricket betting app article, we pick Jasprit Bumrah to be the top bowler for India going forward for the T20 World Cup 2024.

The cricketing world stands still whenever India and Pakistan cross paths on the pitch, especially in the high-stakes environment of ICC tournaments. Amongst these encounters, the T20 World Cups have provided some of the most electrifying and unforgettable moments in cricket history. As the anticipation builds for yet another clash between these arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup 2024, it’s fitting to reminisce about the top five batting performances that have defined this intense rivalry.

Virat Kohli (Australia, 2016):

Virat Kohli‘s stellar performance at the MCG during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been hailed as the tournament’s pinnacle moment, capturing 39% of the FanCraze Greatest Moment vote. Kohli’s unbeaten innings of 82 runs off 53 balls showcased his ability to shine in high-pressure situations, ultimately guiding India to victory in their pursuit of 160 runs against Pakistan. Despite India’s early struggles at 31/4, Kohli’s partnership with Hardik Pandya was instrumental in turning the tide, culminating in an impressive fifth-wicket stand.

Kohli’s innings was characterized by a combination of resilience and aggression, with his late surge, including two crucial sixes off Haris Rauf’s final over, cementing his reputation as a match-winner. The match, witnessed by a staggering crowd of 90,293 spectators, epitomized the intensity of an India-Pakistan encounter on the global stage. As the Player of the Match, Kohli’s contribution was pivotal in India’s four-wicket victory, achieved with no balls remaining, further solidifying his status as one of cricket’s premier batsmen.

The significance of Kohli’s innings extends beyond its immediate impact on the match, resonating as one of the greatest moments in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Amidst stiff competition from a pool of 16 remarkable highlights, Kohli’s iconic six emerged as the definitive choice, encapsulating the essence of cricketing excellence and memorable performances on the world stage.

Virat Kohli (Kolkata, 2016):

In the 2014 T20 World Cup encounter against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma’s innings underscored the significance of stability at the crease. His composed knock of 24 runs off 21 balls as an opener laid a crucial foundation for India’s pursuit of 131 runs. Despite not being a high-scoring innings, Sharma’s ability to navigate the early overs with caution set the tone for India’s eventual victory.

As an opener, Sharma’s role was pivotal in mitigating early risks and building a platform for the middle order. While his innings might not have been as flashy as some others, its importance in stabilizing India’s innings cannot be overstated. Sharma’s contribution played a key role in ensuring India’s successful chase against Pakistan in the group-stage match of the tournament.

Babar Azam (Dubai, 2021):

Azam’s innings were a masterclass in batting under pressure, showcasing his ability to anchor the innings while also capitalizing on scoring opportunities. He expertly maneuvered the ball around the field, finding the boundary when needed and rotating the strike effectively. What will be the format of the T20 World Cup 2024?

The schedule and format of this year’s T20 World Cup are quite different from the other editions of the tournament. The tournament will be played in three stages this time around: the league stage, the Super 8s, and the knockouts.

It will kick off with the league stage matches, where five teams in each group will play one match against every other team in their group, which makes it a total of four matches. After each team plays their league stage quota of four matches, the top two teams in each group will proceed to the next round, which is the Super 8s. A total of 40 matches will be played in the first round, which is the league stage.

At the end of the league stage round, eight teams will qualify for the Super 8s. Here, the eight teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each. The first group will consist of teams A1, B2, C1, and D2. The second group will consist of teams A2, B1, C2, and D1. All these teams will play three matches each amongst their groups, which makes it a total of 12 matches in this round. The top two teams in each group will proceed to the next round, the knockouts.

The third round would be the semi-final matches and the final. The winner of Group 1 in the Super 8s round and the runner-up of Group 2 will contest in the first semi-final, whereas the runner-up of Group 1 and the winner of Group 2 will face each other in the second semi-final. The teams winning both semi-final matches will play in the final of the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Who is hosting the T20 World Cup 2024?

The T20 World Cup 2024 tournament will be jointly hosted by two countries, the West Indies and the USA. All the matches will be played in both of these countries, with the knockouts all set to be played on the West Indies shores. The semi-finals will be played in Tarouba and Providence, whereas the final will be played in the beautiful city of Bridgetown.

The last edition of the tournament was hosted by Australia in 2022 and was won by the England cricket team. The edition before that was hosted in the UAE and Oman, but the official hosts were India.

Which teams will make it to the Super 8s?

It is time for some predictions on the GUGOBET cricket betting app. The tournament is all set to set the cricket fraternity on fire, with all the batters ready to show some explosives with their willows and the bowlers ready to show magic with the white leather in their hands.

In the shortest format of the game, there is no favourite, and any team can win on any given day, as we have witnessed in the past. There are a lot of underdog teams, and we expect nothing but multiple upsets to happen in the T20 World Cup this time around, just like in the last edition.

Since only two teams from each group will make it to the next round (the Super 8s) after the league stage matches, we have made our predictions very carefully.

From Group A, India and Pakistan are expected to move ahead. From Group B, Australia and England would most likely be the teams that take their campaign further. New Zealand and Afghanistan from Group C, and South Africa and the Netherlands from Group D, are predicted to go to the next round.

T20 World Cup 2024 Team India Squad

The T20 World Cup 2024 team India squad was announced a few days before, with Rohit Sharma all set to lead the team in the tournament and Hardik Pandya as his deputy. The whole T20 World Cup 2024 team India squad is as follows:

Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh

Apart from these 15 players, the T20 World Cup 2024 India squad also comprises four players who will be going to the tournament as traveling reserves and will be called upon in the original squad in case of any unfortunate event.

The reserve players are Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Team India Squad – SWOT Analysis

Let us analyze the India squad for the upcoming T20 World 2024 in detail by doing the SWOT analysis on our cricket betting app.

Strengths:

We will start by talking about the strengths of this roster. The main and most important strength of this 15-man roster is the experience that they have. Almost all of the players in the team have more than 10 years of experience playing international cricket and have played multiple world cups in their careers; hence, they know what it takes to win such a big tournament and how to perform well under pressure.

The other strength of this team is their bunch of spin bowlers. The four spinners in the squad are Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. All four of these bowlers are currently in excellent form and can trap any batting lineup in their web. Only two or a maximum of three of these four spinners will find a spot in the playing 11, but whoever plays will be a big danger for the opposing team.

Last but not least, this Indian team has two players named Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, who are match-winners and strengths in themselves. Both of them are undoubtedly the greatest of this generation. As long as these two play well and keep on saving the team in difficult situations, India will be the favourites to lift the World Cup title.

Weaknesses:

Coming to the weaknesses, the most glaring concern that is visible in the team is the lack of form with fast bowlers other than Jasprit Bumrah. Both Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are bowlers of the highest quality and have a lot of calibre, but they have been out of form in the ongoing IPL season, and hence it is a sign of concern for the team. There is hardly a doubt over their talent, and hence, the issue is with their current form in T20 cricket.

Another concern that might trouble the Indian team in this World Cup is finishing the games. Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain of the team, is the designated finisher in the squad, but he is not in form and is not even in a good headspace right now. There is no solid backup as well for Pandya, and this is something that can cause big trouble for the men in blue in winning their second T20 World Cup trophy.

Opportunities:

There are ample opportunities for players in this Indian squad to perform well in this year’s tournament and win India their long-awaited ICC trophy. The biggest opportunity is for Rishabh Pant, who is coming back after a life-threatening injury, to wear the blues again and take the cricketing world by storm. He has shown everyone the trailer in IPL, and the picture is about to come in the World Cup next month.

The other opportunity is for youngsters such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Rinku Singh, who have earned this call-up to the national team after a lot of hard work and consistent performances in domestic cricket. If given a chance here, they would look to take it with both hands and perform well for the country.

Threats:

The biggest possible threat, which can be seen from a mile away in this India squad, is the injury to Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is the most valuable and crucial player in this team, and his staying away from injuries is extremely important for the whole Indian team. Fast bowlers are prone to injuries, and hence they are a huge threat on this roster.

Apart from this, no threat as such can trouble the players, but the players should stay away from injuries and not let the outside noise affect their game, and mental peace holds the utmost value.

Who will open the innings for India in the T20 World Cup?

It is almost certain that captain Rohit Sharma and youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings for Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. It is a right-left combination as well, which can trouble any bowling lineup in the tournament. Both of these players are not in form right now, but all of us know their pedigree and what they are capable of. Once they get going, it is very difficult to stop them before scoring huge runs.

One alternate strategy could be opening the innings with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and then playing Sanju Samson at three. Kohli has been opening in the IPL for many years now and has been successful in doing so. Sanju Samson is also batting well for the Rajasthan Royals at number three and would not be a bad choice at all in the World Cup.

Who will be the captain of India in the T20 World Cup 2024?

Rohit Sharma, the right-handed opening batter, will lead the Indian contingent in the T20 World Cup 2024 next month, which will be played in the USA and the West Indies. He was also the captain of the team in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022, when India bowed out of the tournament after a semi-final loss against England.

Hardik Pandya, the batting all-rounder, will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy as he has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pandya is a smart street leader who is still young and will gain a lot of experience from Rohit in the forthcoming tournament.

Team India Predicted 11 in T20 World Cup 2024

It is now time to predict the probable playing 11 of the men in blue for this upcoming tournament on the GUGOBET cricket betting app.

The opening batters in this team are going to be Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. There is no doubt as to who will bat in the number-three position other than Virat Kohli. Suryakumar Yadav, who is a beast in the shortest format of the game, will be batting in the number four position.

The first-choice keeper is more likely to be Rishabh Pant because the keeper will have to bat at number five, and Pant is a better-suited player than Samson for that position. Hardik Pandya will bat at six and act as the sixth bowling option.

The two spinners in the team should be Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, but that would shorten the batting lineup, and hence Ravindra Jadeja will play in place of one of these two. The three pacers are going to be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. One extra spinner and one less pacer could play, depending on the conditions.

Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammad Siraj

Stay tuned for detailed analysis, predictions, and strategies that could shape the narrative of this thrilling encounter in the heart of Indian sports.

History of IPL vs ISL

The clash between IPL vs ISL is not just a recent phenomenon; it’s a culmination of two sporting juggernauts that have been shaping the landscape of Indian sports for years. IPL 2024 and ISL 2024 are not just seasons; they represent the evolution and growth of cricket and football in India, respectively.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) burst onto the scene in 2008, revolutionizing the way cricket is perceived and consumed in the country. With its glitz, glamor, and high-octane cricketing action, the IPL quickly became a global phenomenon, attracting top talent from around the world. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders have dominated the IPL, creating a legacy of excellence and success.

On the other hand, the Indian Super League (ISL) emerged in 2014, aiming to revolutionize football in India and provide a platform for budding talents. ISL 2024 marks another chapter in the league’s journey, with teams like Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Bengaluru FC, Mumbai City FC and FC Goa vying for supremacy. Over the years, the ISL has not only brought international stars to Indian shores but has also nurtured homegrown talent, elevating the standard of Indian football on the global stage.

The history of IPL vs ISL is one of fierce competition and mutual growth. While IPL has enjoyed a longer tenure and established itself as the premier cricket league in India, ISL has rapidly gained ground, carving a niche for itself in the hearts of football fans across the nation. Both leagues have their loyal fan bases, each passionately rooting for their favorite teams. As IPL 2024 and ISL 2024 unfold, the rivalry between cricket and football reaches new heights. The clash between IPL vs ISL teams is not just about sports; it’s about pride, passion, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. With each passing season, the IPL vs ISL rivalry continues to captivate the imagination of fans and pundits alike, shaping the narrative of Indian sports for years to come.

Differences in IPL VS ISL

When you look at sporting leagues, what immediately comes to mind is the electric atmosphere inside stadiums, with fans passionately cheering for their teams. Whether it’s the National Football League (NFL) or the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the US, or the Premier League in England, each league boasts loyal supporters who have inherited their allegiance from generations past. Territorialism runs deep; you wouldn’t dare to wear a West Ham jersey in Bermondsey without expecting some confrontation from Millwall fans.

The same goes for East Bengal and Mohun Bagan fans in Kolkata. Take the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, for instance—arch rivals for almost a century, their fierce competition is built on regional proximity and a history of intense battles across 186 meetings. However, this sense of tribalism that characterizes most sporting rivalries can sometimes turn toxic. It’s this tribalism that makes fans identify with players who could switch teams tomorrow and not matter as much to them anymore. But as long as they are playing for the badge, your club’s badge, you’d defend them with your life.

This brings us to the IPL matches. According to official broadcasters, this season saw a 23% rise in viewership from the previous edition, reaching an average of 31.57 million impressions. The surge in interest this year was epitomized by people’s engagement with fantasy gaming platforms. What’s intriguing is the tendency among users to support a player they’ve picked in their fantasy team over the team they claim to support. So you have someone like Rohan from Kolkata cheering for Dinesh Karthik’s wicket off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling solely because it would earn him points to win a head-to-head contest and some cash. Although there’s nothing wrong with this, it does indicate a lack of genuine attachment between fans and franchises.

The territorial loyalty that unites and divides people through their love for the sport seems to be lost. One could argue that the spectacle of the IPL, with its commercial packaging, glamour, and a pitch typically favorable to batsmen, has somehow overshadowed the intense chanting and fan banter seen in a Kolkata derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, or the Southern derby involving Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters. After a loss, fans may feel disappointed, but perhaps not deeply enough to hurt their pride or ego, as is often the case in those aforementioned derbies.

In the world of Indian sports, the clash between IPL and ISL games represents a similar dichotomy. With each passing season, both leagues attract more viewers and fans, yet the depth of emotional investment seems to differ. IPL 2024 and ISL 2024 continue this saga of intense competition and evolving fan dynamics, each leaving its mark on the landscape of Indian sports.

Comparison between IPL VS ISL

In the realm of Indian sports, there’s an age-old battle between cricket and football, each vying for the nation’s attention. Once a football powerhouse, India’s aspirations to reclaim its glory on the international stage remain a part of its rich history. Conversely, cricket boasts two World Cup victories and a slew of other international accolades, cementing its status as a national obsession. Amidst this debate over sports supremacy, India hosts two simultaneous leagues: the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Indian Super League (ISL), each with its own distinct identity.

Attention from the crowd

IPL Auction and News

The Indian Premier League, fondly known as IPL, is nothing short of a cricketing extravaganza. Boasting a galaxy of stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and M.S. Dhoni, IPL commands attention not only within India but also on the global stage. The league’s allure is further heightened by the presence of renowned team owners such as Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, whose involvement adds a touch of glamor and intrigue to the proceedings.

In recent IPL News, the IPL auction has been a major event, drawing attention from cricket fans worldwide. The auctions are where teams bid for players to strengthen their squads, and it often leads to intense bidding wars and surprising player transfers. This adds another layer of excitement and anticipation to the IPL, keeping fans glued to their screens.

Indian Super League

Meanwhile, the Indian Super League, or ISL, is not lacking in star power either. With marquee signings like Del Piero, David Trezeguet, Robert Pires, and the legendary Roberto Carlos, ISL has carved out its own niche in Indian football. Moreover, the league’s appeal extends beyond the footballing realm, with cricketing icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, as well as Bollywood luminaries including Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor, and Varun Dhawan, owning or co-owning teams. This amalgamation of sporting and entertainment icons ensures that ISL remains a compelling spectacle for fans across the nation.

Timing and Power

When we talk about cricket, the Indian Premier League (IPL) stands out as the most prestigious and popular T20 league globally. While there are T20 leagues in other cricket-playing nations, the IPL’s timing ensures there’s no clash, allowing it to draw in the biggest cricketing stars from around the world. This has not only contributed to the IPL’s immense success but also ensured a high level of competition and excitement for fans.

On the other hand, the Indian Super League (ISL) operates in a different scenario. Scheduled during the peak seasons of highly-followed football leagues like the English Premier League, Bundesliga, and La Liga, the ISL faces a tough challenge. While football is gaining popularity among the youth in India, their loyalty tends to lie more with international clubs rather than the domestic league. This dynamic could work against the ISL, hindering its growth and fan engagement.

Meanwhile, in the realm of football, ISL games are trying to carve their niche among the passionate football fans in India. However, the challenge lies in competing with the allure of international leagues, where the top clubs and players capture the imagination of Indian football enthusiasts. While the ISL has made strides in promoting football in India, it still has a long way to go in terms of establishing itself as the premier football league in the country. Despite the differences in their journeys and challenges, both the IPL and ISL continue to shape the sports landscape in India, each with its own set of triumphs and hurdles. As IPL auctions and ISL games unfold, fans eagerly await the drama and excitement that come with these premier sporting events, hoping to witness their favorite teams and players shine on the big stage.

Controversies

Controversies Indian Premier League (IPL) Indian Super League (ISL)

Did ISL improve Indian football? The question is asked repeatedly, and the answer seems to be a resounding yes. The ISL has played a significant role in popularizing football in India, providing a platform for local talent to shine and raising the overall standard of the sport in the country.

In contrast, the IPL auction system has often come under scrutiny for various reasons. While it provides an opportunity for players to secure lucrative contracts, it has also faced criticism for being exploitative and favoring certain players and teams. The high-pressure environment of the auction can sometimes lead to impulsive decisions and inflated prices, raising questions about its fairness and transparency. Overall, both the IPL and ISL have had their own journeys and impacts on Indian sports. While the IPL has faced its share of controversies, the ISL has emerged as a positive force for Indian football, showcasing the talent and potential of the country on a global stage.
